Who We Are

In short, Millbrook’s members strive to be loyal to Jesus Christ and the mission of his Spirit.

Our loyalty to Christ and his mission urges us to…

  • love God with study, prayer, and obedience

  • love each other in earnest Christian community

  • and love the world by spreading the gospel, promoting peace, protecting creation, pushing for social justice, and providing relief for the poor and vulnerable

Distinctive Features of Our Church

  • Millbrook engages its changing community as an open and inclusive church. Our members are largely progressive in their perspective on God’s unfolding will for the creation that God loves. We not only search the scriptures, we look for Jesus’ love and guidance through our relationships with all sorts of people.

  • Millbrook has a proud history of educating in faith. We prize free and open inquiry supported by solid scholarship. We do not fear higher education or the historical-critical method.

  • We are good Baptists, so we don’t demand uniformity in all matters of faith and practice. We adhere to historic Baptist principles like believer’s baptism, the priesthood of every believer, local church autonomy, and freedom of conscience for all.

  • We maintain great relationships with other communities of faith. To expand our opportunities and involvement, MBC affiliates with other Baptists through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina, the Alliance of Baptists, and the Raleigh Baptist Association. Our ministers also participate in the North Raleigh Clergy Group, which keeps us in partnership with Christians, Muslims, and Jews alike.

Our Church Covenant

Having been led to join this church by the spirit of God and having confessed our sin and having been baptized in the name of the Trinity, we do now before God enter this covenant with each other joined in Christ’s body:

·       To celebrate as a community of faith through the worship of God, prayers and the observance of the ordinances.

·       To establish and maintain an open and inclusive fellowship, which affirms and accepts all who seek to profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

·       To affirm and to participate with other expressions of the Christian faith.

·       To be faithful and cheerful stewards of our personal resources of money, talents, time, and material goods, giving sacrificially to the ministry of the church.

·       To share in each other’s joys and bear each other’s burdens and sorrows.

·       To create, support and participate in opportunities to grow in the Christian faith.

·       To be intentionally involved in the work of the church through missions, ministry and evangelism.

·       To maintain a consistent and positive witness to the Christian faith in both our public and private lives.
