Our Preschool Approach

Low Classroom Ratios & One-to-One Education

At Millbrook Baptist Preschool, we believe that one-on-one education is important and in order to optimize those opportunities in the classroom, we maintain low teacher to student ratios. We are blessed to have several teachers with more than 10 years experience teaching young children; some with as many as 20 years. All of our teachers are actively involved in continuing education and training.

We adhere to a lower student - teacher ratio in our classrooms than even the highest voluntary ratio standards.

Toddlers: 4 students per teacher, 8 students maximum in class

Early Preschool: 5 students per teacher, 10 students maximum in class

Preschool: 6 students per teacher, 12 students maximum in class

Pre-K: 8 students per teacher, 16 students maximum in class

Skill Development

Millbrook Baptist Preschool is dedicated to providing an educational setting for preschool children ages 1 – 5 which will facilitate skill development in the creative, physical, social, emotional, language, cognitive and spiritual domains. Through a program based upon the preschooler’s needs and abilities, we help each child to reach their full potential.

Work-Play

We focus on methods of teaching based on a proper understanding of child development. Play is the work and language of children, and skillfully-directed “work-play” is the foundation of a good preschool. We recognize the value of work-play to children and use it throughout our curricula.

Equipment permanently located on the playground allows children to develop their gross motor skills, while supplementary equipment such as sifters, shovels, and buckets allow children to refine their fine motor skills.  The large size of the playground permits children to run, skip, hop, and play in cooperative groups as well as stimulating their creative senses in a natural environment. Our playground is divided into two sections; one for age 4 and up, one for age 3 and below.

Parent Partnership

We believe that parental participation is key to any successful child care program. At Millbrook Baptist Preschool we welcome parental involvement. We have an open door policy that allows parents access to the preschool during operating hours. Some examples of parental involvement are: parent council meeting, open house, individual conferences, classroom volunteer, field trips, and sending in special treats and snacks.

Handwriting without Tears

Our children learn how to form letters correctly with our "Handwriting without Tears" curriculum.  This hands-on, easy, and fun system allows for student success in handwriting.

Children’s Library

Our teachers and children have access to a well-stocked hardback children's book library. This library includes the classics and is added to each year. Each class rotates the books in their classroom with these books as well as paperback books bought for the room. Books are rotated as needed to reinforce the current unit of study.

Classroom Space

Millbrook Baptist Church has supported MBP by giving the preschool dedicated classroom space. The church has other rooms for use on Sunday mornings; therefore, our teachers may use their entire classroom space for classroom activities.

Conscious Discipline

At Millbrook Baptist Preschool, we follow the principles of "Conscious Discipline", which is an approach that teaches everyone how to respond to life events as a teaching moment rather than using unintentional skills that may not be effective, wise, or may not teach the child the lesson intended.
