Crop Walk

Each year, Millbrook walks in the Greater Triangle Area Crop Hunger Walk. These walk events occur nationwide to support Church World Service’s “just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster.” Communities that host a walk receive a quarter of the funds they raise invested in local hunger fighting efforts.

Backpack Buddies

In partnership with the Interfaith Food Shuttle, Millbrook participates in the Backpack Buddies program with Millbrook Elementary School. Once a month, 38 backpacks of food are delivered to food insecure children. Look for our Backpack Buddies display usually located in the fellowship hall. You can also send food directly to the church by using our Amazon Wishlist.

Baptist Retirement Homes of North Carolina

Millbrook provides financial support to the Baptist Retirement Homes Foundation which provides benevolent care for North Carolina’s aging. Founded in 1951, Baptist Retirement Homes of North Carolina, Incorporated is one of North Carolina’s most respected providers of long term care. With four retirement communities through the state, Baptist Retirement Homes provides all levels of care for Older Adults, including special programs for Older Adults with dementia-related disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease.

Baptist Women in Ministry

Millbrook also supports Baptist Women in Ministry (BWIM). Each February, Millbrook participates in Martha Stearns Marshall Sunday, an initiative to encourage the talents and gifts of women preachers. Millbrook has also hosted BWIM speakers and annual gatherings.

Denominational Service

Authentic Baptist churches and organizations remain autonomous, but Millbrook partners with several local and regional bodies: Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North CarolinaAlliance of Baptists, and the Raleigh Baptist Association. Each group allows Millbrook to help support local and global missionaries, partner in community service projects, take advantage of training resources, and belong to a larger Baptist fellowship.

Dorcas Sewing Ministries

The Dorcas Sewing Ministry provides an opportunity for fellowship while making quilts, hats, children’s clothing and other garments for those in need. The group meets upstairs in room #216 of the education wing on Wednesday afternoons at 3pm. Over the years Dorcas Sewing Ministry has delivered hats, pillows and tote bags to patients at the Duke Raleigh Cancer Center; made children’s dresses, shirts and shorts that were distributed by the Honduras Mission team; provided blankets for the Journey Partners mission team to Zimbabwe; and organized efforts for SOLE Hope. Dorcas also makes baby blankets that the church presents to new babies at every child dedication service.

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County

Millbrook is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. Each year several Millbrook members participate in the Baptist Build with other Raleigh churches to provide a home for a local family. For the last five years, Millbrook has hosted several groups of college students each spring. These young people spend their spring breaks volunteering at Habitat sites around the area. Millbrook is also proud to be the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity in Wake County. The chapter housed its first offices in Millbrook’s old chapel building.

Helen Wright Center

The Heritage Sunday School Class has served dinner at the Helen Wright Center twice a year for many years. The Helen Wright Center assists single, homeless women who do not have children in their care.

Oak City Cares

Once a quarter, Millbrook works with Oak City Cares to provide breakfast at Oak City Outreach Center. Millbrookers gather early Saturday morning to prepare breakfast, deliver the meal, and visit with neighbors.

Support Circle for Homeless Families

Millbrook partners with Support Circle for Homeless Families (a division of Catholic Charities) to host Jobs for Life Classes, an eight-week program for persons who are unemployed or underemployed in our community. These classes, which are held twice a week, use a Christ-centered curriculum to teach basic skills to individuals that will prepare them for work and life. In past years, Millbrook has also hosted support circles for local families transitioning into long-term housing. Members of the support circle team offer support for these families in the form of prayer, encouragement, and some physical assistance.

Urban Ministries of Wake County

The Backpack Buddies program only runs September through May, so Millbrookers also participate in a July canned food drive to help support the Food Pantry at Urban Ministries of Wake County. We also provide financial support to this ministry and another one that meets similar needs, Family Promise of Wake County (previously Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network). See below.

Family Promise of Wake County

Millbrook provides financial support to Urban Ministries of Wake County and Family Promise of Wake County (previously Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network). These organizations help provide food, housing, crisis assistance, and healthcare to individuals in need in the Wake County area.

Warmth of Giving

Each Sunday of Advent, Millbrookers donate different items of warmth (socks, gloves, clothes, hats, etc). Collections are shared with Millbrook Elementary and Helping Hand Mission at the conclusion of this drive.

Wheels for Hope

Millbrook members have assisted and donated to Wheels4Hope, a faith-based, volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income families and individuals by providing them reliable, affordable vehicles. Volunteers, partner congregations, agencies and businesses represent a variety of faith perspectives. The primary mission of Wheels4Hope is to sell Program Cars to qualified recipients who are referred by Partner Agencies. Program Cars are vehicles that are in sound mechanical condition and are valued in the $2,000-4,000 range. Believing in the principle of ownership and with a commitment to partnership, Wheels4Hope requires recipients to pay $500 for their car and be responsible for title and transfer fees. In the process of providing affordable cars, Wheels4Hope also stands behind each program car with a 6-month warranty.
