Who We Are
Our Purpose
The core of our identity has been steadfast for nearly 150 years and it will never change. We exist to praise our Creator.
Our Vision
The picture of our purpose is best expressed in hospitality. We seek to praise God by modeling the radical love, hospitality, and service of Jesus.
Our Mission
The strategy behind our vision is to be a hosting community. We seek to love God, love our neighbors, and love creation.
Our Sense of Community is Reflected in the Following Pillars:
hospitality, worship, community outreach, prophetic witness, shared ministry, spiritual formation, and relationships.
- Hospitality. We seek to be a welcoming people. We genuinely desire for guests to be themselves in this community.
- Worship. We make an intentional, consistent, and corporate effort to praise our Creator.
- Community Outreach. We seek to be part of the neighborhood. We want to connect with Raleigh and the larger world.
- Prophetic Witness. We desire to share the good news of God's love and salvation with the world.
- Every Member Ministering. EVERYONE OF US (EVERY SINGLE ONE!) has something unique and special to offer the world. We want to create an environment where people feel safe, empowered, and emboldened to both be AND express themselves authentically, and to live into the story alongside us.
- Spiritual Formation. We want to be intentional about offering ways to grow and inform our faith; we also want to be intentional about creating the kinds of spaces where we respect (even celebrate!) the uniqueness of every person's spiritual journey.
- Relationships and Connection. We want to be human! We want to create meaningful friendships and relationships of mutuality, care, and trust.
What We Believe
We proclaim the Lordship of Christ and we believe the boundless possibilities of God’s love in the world. Our loyalty to Christ and his mission urges us to…
- Love God with study, prayer, and obedience
- Love each other in earnest Christian community
- Love the world by spreading the gospel, promoting peace, protecting creation, pushing for social justice, and providing relief for the poor and vulnerable
Our Church Covenant
Having been led to join this church by the spirit of God and having been baptized in the name of the Trinity, we do now before God enter this covenant with each other joined in Christ’s body:
- To celebrate as a community of faith through the worship of God, prayers and the observance of the ordinances.
- To establish and maintain an open and inclusive fellowship, which affirms and accepts all who seek to profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- To affirm and to participate with other expressions of the Christian faith.
- To be faithful and cheerful stewards of our personal resources of money, talents, time, and material goods, giving sacrificially to the ministry of the church.
- To share in each other’s joys and bear each other’s burdens and sorrows.
- To create, support, and participate in opportunities to grow in the Christian faith.
- To be intentionally involved in the work of the church through missions, ministry and evangelism.
- To maintain a consistent and positive witness to the Christian faith in both our public and private lives.
