Adult Sunday School Classes
Millbrook’s adult Sunday school classes form tight bonds that often become crucial to the Christian experience of their members.
Sunday school classes meet from September through May, which usually includes every Sunday except Labor Day weekend, the two Sundays nearest Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Memorial Day weekend.
The Covenant Class
The Covenant class meets in the second floor room of the Fellowship Hall. Beginning in the fall of 2024, the class will undertake a study of Adam Hamilton’s Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture. The Covenant Class is taught by Jan Pender.
The Heritage Class
The Heritage Class meets on the first floor classroom of the Fellowship Hall. They use lectionary-based curriculum published by Smyth and Helwys called Connections. Elizabeth Davis, Bob Marsh, and Cher Moss teach the class on a rotational basis.
The Kairos Class
This class is designed for Christian adults or those who are seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ who prefer facilitated discussion as opposed to the lecture method of learning. Currently, we have 12-14 class members who take turns facilitating the discussion of Christian books by various theologians, philosophers, and professors as well as intense study of various books of the Bible. Books we have studied include Help, Thanks, Wow! by Ann Lamont; If God Is Love, Don’t Be a Jerk by John Pavovitz; Borg and Crossan’s The First Christmas and The Last Week; Forgiveness: A Lenten Study by Marjorie Thompson; Entering the Passion of Jesus by Amy Jill Levine; and several faith-based books by Kate Bowler. Our goal is to relate the Bible and the writings of the followers of Jesus to our everyday lives as we all engage in active, participatory learning and critical thinking.
As we resume our studies in September of 2024, we will continue our reading and discussion of A Bigger Table by John Pavovitz. ALL ARE WELCOME!
