The Season of Lent
February 18, 2026
Dear MBC Family:
Today is Ash Wednesday, and we’ll hear a familiar refrain: “From dust you (we) come,” God says, “And to dust you (we) shall return.” (Genesis 3:19). Yes, this speaks to our mortality, but this needn’t be a morbid statement, especially when we consider that dust is earth. And earth, not to mention Earth, is God’s good creation. It’s the source of all life. A source that births us, loves us, sustains us, and ultimately welcomes us home. We are sourced from God and we return to God.
We believe that the Season of Lent offers an opportunity to see anew our Source of Life, to imagine, with all of our senses, the various ways God loves and cares for us. And to use our recognition of God’s love, and our appreciation for its fullness and depth, as a catalyst for better loving God and neighbor.
Beginning next Sunday, February 22, the First Sunday of Lent, we invite you to hear scriptures that share stories of newness: wilderness, birth, wells of living water, sight, life, and truth. We invite you to pray the ancient prayer alongside new expressions. We invite you to hear from fellow Millbrookers about issues of heart, mind, soul, and Spirit. We invite you to sing, to rest, to share God’s peace, to think, to meditate, to discern, to connect, to worship, and to praise.
It’s time to see anew!
