150TH ANNIVERSARY

150 YEARS OF MILLBROOK

Join us for a year-long celebration of all things Millbrook!

Documents from the NC State Department of Archives report that members from the New Hope, Mount Vernon, and Wake Cross Roads Baptist Churches met in conference the Saturday before the second Sunday in October, 1875 (October 9) and moved the following:

The Baptist House of Worship (Midway) on Fall Road near Bro. E. Chapell’s be considered a branch of New Hope Church and that a committee of ten be appointed to meet for organization.

Thus, what is now Millbrook Baptist Church was born. And 150 years later, we’re gonna celebrate!

We invite you to join us for our 150th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, November 9, 2025. This event will kick off a year-long commemoration of Millbrook’s enduring legacy of ministry in Raleigh. We will use this page to provide ongoing updates to all events associated with the 150th celebration. It’s our sincere hope that Millbrookers past and present will join us in sharing memories, exploring our history, and dreaming about the next century and a half of ministry.

The dream of Millbrook began on Saturday, October 9, 1875, when a dozen people from local churches gathered to discuss forming a new church, Midway (later Millbrook), to be located midway between New Hope and Mt. Vernon Churches. They met near the corner of Falls of the Neuse and Spring Forest Roads at 2:00 pm.

To honor the 150th anniversary of this occasion, Millbrookers will gather near the original spot at Jason's Deli (909 Spring Forest Road) and raise a glass/cone (sweet tea or vanilla soft serve) to give thanks for their vision. Details below:

150TH ANNIVERSARY ENDOWMENT FUND Expand

Support Our 150th Anniversary Endowment

Our 150th celebration isn’t simply an acknowledgement of 150 years of ministry; it’s also a launchpad for the future. We want to ensure that there are ample resources for future generations to experience the Spirit of Millbrook.  To that end, we are creating the 150th Anniversary Endowment Fund to support three areas of vital need: 1) Worship Arts 2) Capital Improvements and 3) Community Missions.

What’s the Purpose of an Endowment?

Endowment funds would allow us to pursue the most meaningful initiatives – those that have the most felt, visible, and immediate impact for the congregation – without affecting our annual budget. These are not contributions to what Millbrook is, they are contributions to what Millbrook will be.

Why These Vital Needs?

Worship is an expression of our purpose and the primary vehicle for gathering our community together in sacred space. We want to ensure there are financial resources to secure vibrant musicians, speakers, and other artforms that support our regular gatherings, because these are the things that stir heart, mind, and spirit. We also want to support technology, software, and other elements that improve our accessibility and reach. We want everyone to experience Millbrook in as robust a manner as possible.

Our building and grounds are an essential part of our ministry, but they require consistent maintenance and upkeep.  And as our congregational goals and needs evolve, there will also be seasons where our spaces need to be updated or upfitted. We envision endowment funds that can help offset the cost of unexpected/unplanned expenses (think HVAC or plumbing repairs) and mid-term expenses (painting, carpet, lighting), while also helping to ignite giving for bolder, dreamier projects.  Being prepared for these needs ensure funds are never diverted from our annual ministry plan.

We seek to be good neighbors, especially in and around the 27609-zip code. We want to identify the most pressing needs of our community, and be ready to respond in compelling ways. Endowed funds would allow us to respond immediately and impactfully to extemporaneous and urgent needs as they arise.  And these funds would provide impact above and beyond our budgeted missions.

Giving to the Endowment

Donations to the endowment are intended to be separate from annual gifts/tithes.  We ask our households to consider giving a $150 contribution to the endowment above their annual commitment.  As a thank-you to any household who makes a contribution of $150 or more, we will provide a complimentary Millbrook Commemorative Bundle (T-shirt, Coffee Mug, Ornament, and Sticker Sheet). Learn more about the items in our Commemorative Merchandise Section.

Congregants may also want to consider making donations in one-time or monthly increments of $15.00 (with more or less zeroes).

Thank you for helping to support the future of Millbrook. Online donations can be made through our Realm platform here and by selecting the option for 150th Anniversary Fund.  Cash and checks may be mailed to the church office (1519 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609). Please designate 150th Anniversary Fund in the line item/memo.
